TL;DR. Skool has a built-in Calendar for scheduling live events. Each event has a Zoom/Google Meet link, description, RSVP, and an embedded live video player when the meeting is running. Skool does NOT have native streaming — it relies on Zoom/Meet/Whereby for the actual video. For most community use cases (weekly Q&A, masterminds, office hours) this works fine.
How Skool live events work
- You schedule an event in the Calendar tab — title, description, start time, duration, Zoom/Meet URL
- Members see it on their calendar tab, get reminder emails 24h before, get a push notification 15 min before
- At event time, the event page embeds the Zoom video player so members can join without leaving Skool
- RSVP is optional — members can mark attending/not attending so you have a headcount
What you CAN’T do natively
- Stream directly inside Skool (no native streaming infrastructure)
- Record events in Skool (Zoom does the recording, you upload the recording elsewhere)
- Multi-presenter setups native (Zoom handles presenters)
- Paywalled live events (all members of the tier with calendar access can attend — no per-event payment)
For native streaming + recording, Circle’s Live Streams (Pro+ plan) or a dedicated platform like StreamYard works better. Most Skool owners are fine with Zoom — the friction of “click a link” is minimal.
How to run weekly community calls
Standard pattern most successful Skool communities use:
- Pick a recurring slot — same day, same time, weekly (e.g. Wednesdays 7pm ET)
- Create the event in Skool calendar with a recurring Zoom meeting URL
- Pin a community post that announces the recurring event (“Cafecito Startup — every Wednesday”)
- Set Auto DM for new members mentioning the weekly call
- Email reminder 24h before (Skool handles automatically)
- Post a recap in the feed the day after (link to the Zoom recording if you uploaded one)
This cadence — weekly community call, consistent, recorded — drives retention more than any other single intervention.
Calendar features
- Single events
- Recurring events (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly)
- Multi-day events
- Different timezones (member sees their local time)
- iCal sync (members can subscribe to your calendar from their personal calendar app)
- Public events (visible without login, useful for free communities) or private (members only)
Common live event types
| Type | Cadence | Format |
|---|---|---|
| Weekly Q&A | 1×/week | 60 min, 30 min Q&A + 30 min hot seats |
| Workshop | Monthly | 90 min, deep dive on one topic |
| Cohort sessions | Multi-week course | 60-90 min, structured curriculum |
| Office hours | 2×/month | 30-60 min, drop-in async |
| Demo day | Quarterly | 2-3 hours, members present projects |
| AMA with guest | Ad-hoc | 60 min, external expert |
Production gotchas
- Zoom recording limits — your Zoom plan caps recording storage. Download recordings to your own storage if you want to keep history.
- Time zone confusion — members in different timezones; Skool shows local time correctly but emails/reminders use the timezone of the event creator. Set your calendar timezone to where most members are.
- Recurring events — if you change the date of one occurrence, the recurrence pattern may or may not update other occurrences. Test in your own community first.
- Free trial members can attend — even before they pay. Some owners gate live events behind a paid tier; others use the live call as a conversion driver. Pick based on your model.
Live events for paid conversion
A common conversion pattern:
- Free community members see the live event happening
- Free tier can’t access (or sees only the recording 1 week later)
- Paid tier can attend live
- Free members observe the engagement (comments, posts about it) and upgrade
This works because live events are synchronous social proof — members posting “loved tonight’s call” makes the value visible in a way recorded content can’t replicate.
Automating live event announcements
Use the Apify Skool API actor to:
- Auto-post the event reminder in the community feed 2 hours before
- DM members who RSVP’d “attending” with the Zoom link
- Post the recording link after the event ends
See Newsletter to Skool post for the pattern adapted to event reminders.
